Train on a realistic simulated ship’s bridge with K-Sim® Navigation

Talk to an expert

The K-Sim Navigation simulator provides students with highly realistic training using vessels, objects, and equipment that behave and interact as in real life, thanks to an advanced physics engine and state-of-the-art hydrodynamic modelling.

The sophisticated new visual system brings to life vessels and objects, including geographical exercise areas and all possible weather conditions. K-Sim Navigation was specially developed for the maritime education and training industry, is certified by DNV, and exceeds the existing STCW requirements.

Maximise navigation and ship-handling performance

In K-Sim Navigation students and crew can:

  • Learn and practise daily procedures
  • Develop attitudes and best practices
  • Enhance team skills and understanding
  • Gain vital skills crucial for handling emergencies
  • Test scenarios before a mission
  • Carry out studies and research projects for decision support

Leverage next-gen ship’s bridge simulation technology

Ensure realism in training

Real-time simulation and advanced hydrodynamic modelling allow vessels, objects and equipment to behave as in real life, and enable students to efficiently build the required skills.

Empower the instructor

  • With the easy-to-use instructor tool, the creation, control, monitoring, and evaluation of exercise performance has never been easier.

Meeting exact needs

  • Customise K-Sim Navigation to support your training needs and expand with additional equipment to meet changing needs — or leverage other K-Sim simulators for more comprehensive crew training.

Benefit from leading simulation technology

Realism in simulated vessel models

K-Sim Navigation’s range of hydrodynamic ship models with six degrees of freedom, ensuring an excellent level of vessel motion accuracy. All vessel models can be delivered with dynamic loading, ballast control and optional integration to load calculators. The use of a sophisticated physics engine supports full interaction including 3D hull collision detection and a high degree of realism in the behaviour of lines, wires, and chains, and calculates the winch load and line forces in detail, for instance, in tug and mooring exercises.

Sophisticated visual system

K-Sim Navigation’s sophisticated visual system, SeaView, is recognized for its very high degree of realism in details, depth perception, and motions. Training scenarios bring vessels and objects in all weather conditions to life, and a range of geographical sailing areas is available to accommodate different training objectives.

Detailed exercise areas

Geographical exercise areas that correspond exactly to real- life environments are required to ensure realistic, quality simulation training. K-Sim Navigation offers a comprehensive library of exercise areas with radar, depth, buoy, chart and visual files. The Student Field Chart can be used to create customised exercise areas for specific requirements

Customised to meet specific training objectives

K-Sim Offshore offers a fully scalable range of modern bridge designs to meet any offshore training requirement and budget; from a PC-based desktop system to a fully equipped forward and aft bridge on a six degrees-of-freedom motion platform.

Choose between desktop and full mission simulators

K-Sim Navigation can be configured for a desktop computer or an operational full mission simulator using custom panels and instruments to fit your requirements. These capabilities offer a new level of realism, as the crew can train on the identical equipment they will later operate onboard ships.

Full mission - Class A

The full mission system is compliant with DNV’s Class A certification. It includes an instructor station and a fwd ship’s bridge environment fully equipped with navigation steering gear, instruments like ECDIS and radar, and communication equipment. The system also includes a visual system with a field of view up to 360 degrees. As an option it can be delivered with an aft bridge and a motion platform.

Part task - Class B

The part task system complies with DNV’s Class B certification. It includes an instructor station and a ship’s bridge environment fully equipped with navigation steering gear, instruments like ECDIS and Radar, and communication equipment. The system also includes a visual system with a 120- to 240-degree field of view.

Desktop - Class C

The desktop solution fulfils DNV’s Class C requirements and is ideal for basic training in a classroom setup. The system typically includes 1-25 student stations and 1-2 instructor stations to create and manage simulation exercises.

Cloud-based - Class D

K-Sim Navigation can be delivered as a cloud-based training solution through the K-Sim Connect portal. This online/eLearning solution complies with DNV’s Class D certification, enabling students to carry out simulation training anytime and anywhere.

Optimise the learning experience

Depending on the training goals, the system can be equipped with additional bridge instruments, providing the ultimate familiarisation in training. The flexibility of K Sim Navigation enables expansion at any time, with new instruments, workstations, and even with other K-Sim simulators for crew resource management training.

Tailor to any bridge design

Andreas A full mission K-Sim Navigation installation can be tailored to any bridge design for all sorts of vessels such as cruise ships, tankers, tug boats, offshore-, and navy vessels, with additional instruments depending on training and familiarisation needs.

Integrated team training

K-Sim  supports interdepartmental crew training through the interface between several K-Sim simulators, including K-Sim Navigation, K-Sim Engine, K-Sim Offshore, K-Sim DP and K-Sim Offshore Crane.

Train interdepartmental crews

The integrated solution enables focus on vital human factors such as:

  • Situational awareness
  • Interaction and team-work
  • Interpersonal communication
  • Leadership and decision-making

Enhance training with K-Sim Instructor

The K-Sim Instructor System is designed with the user experience firmly in focus, providing instructors with a powerful and efficient tool for designing, controlling, and assessing customised exercises.

The system is designed to enhance the quality of simulation training by enabling the instructor to develop customised exercises for individuals or teams which can include capabilities such as the initial condition, triggers, actions, and e-Coach messages.

With the automatic recording of all activity during exercises, a replay function for debriefing, and a built-in assessment system, structured training and objective evaluation have never been easier!

At our K-Sim simulators, our students have broken equipment worth almost 180 million US dollars during the last 10 years. If we have prevented just 5% of these accidents from happening in real life, we still will have saved Maersk supply service millions of dollars.
