Discover how Vår Energi successfully moved from a focused digital twin pilot to full-scale implementation, unlocking value across their operations. In this video, Vår Energi shares the critical success factors behind their approach: clear use cases, strong collaboration, and a mindset shift around data and technology and business processes.
Whether you're exploring your first pilot or scaling up, this story offers valuable insight into what it takes to drive real digital transformation in the energy sector.
A strategic partnership
Vår Energi partnered with Kongsberg Digital to explore how digital twin technology could enhance maintenance planning and execution. Instead of committing to a full-scale rollout from the start, the teams chose a step-by-step approach—beginning with a focused pilot project using real historical data from a single asset.
Aligning on use cases
Early in the process, the teams collaborated to identify relevant use cases and ensure alignment across departments. Stakeholders from operations, maintenance, and IT were engaged to define needs and expectations. This cross-functional involvement helped ensure the pilot addressed real operational challenges.
This helped us get a very good understanding of what the future may look like.

Testing the technology
The pilot was built on Kongsberg Digital’s Kognitwin platform, tailored to test key functionalities and demonstrate value. The main objective was to have the pilot scoped, built and deployed in less than 3 months. Offshore and onshore teams were involved throughout the development and testing phases, providing feedback and helping validate the solution in a real-world setting.
Clear benefits and strong results
Feedback from users showed that the digital twin improved visibility, understanding, and collaboration. It supported better decision-making and offered new ways of working across teams—bridging gaps between people, systems, and data.

Scaling with confidence
Encouraged by the results, Vår Energi decided to scale the initiative by implementing a full digital twin for the Goliat asset. This case demonstrates how starting small, involving the right people, and focusing on real business value can create momentum for successful digital transformation.
We found the pilot program and our approach very efficient. It allowed us to test and verify our use cases, the state and availability of our data. The key functionalities and the performance of the tool.
