Kongsberg Digital and Sinopec Shanghai Offshore Forge Strategic Partnership to Advance Intelligent Offshore Energy Ecosystem

Kongsberg Digital, a global leader in industrial digital solutions, has entered into a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sinopec Shanghai Offshore Oil & Gas Company, a subsidiary of China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec Group), to jointly accelerate the digital and intelligent transformation of offshore oil and gas assets. The agreement, signed in Oslo this week, marks a milestone in cross-border collaboration aimed at reshaping energy infrastructure through cutting-edge technologies.

The MoU was formally inked by Wu Haifeng, Vice President and General Manager of China at Kongsberg Digital, and Zhang Pei, Manager of the Technology and Information Management Center at Sinopec Shanghai Offshore. High-profile representatives present at the signing ceremony included Shane McArdle, CEO of Kongsberg Digital; Stein-Roar Skånhaug Bjørnstad, Chief Customer & Delivery Officer; Karen Sandberg, Vice President Growth; and Zhao Yong, CEO of Sinopec Shanghai Offshore, alongside senior experts Feng Qin and Li Jiudi from Sinopec Group.

The partnership centers on Sinopec’s lifecycle management needs for offshore oil and gas fields. Kongsberg Digital will leverage its flagship Kognitwin® digital twin platform, integrated with artificial intelligence (AI), to empower Sinopec in establishing an end-to-end intelligent framework spanning exploration, production optimisation, and predictive equipment maintenance. This initiative aims to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and bolster safety across offshore assets.

Moving forward, the two parties will deepen technological collaboration to jointly explore innovative applications of digital twin technology and large-scale AI models in the energy sector. This partnership aims to drive digital transformation across the global energy industry and contribute to its sustainable advancement.
