Kongsberg Digital at ADIPEC 2025: Unveiling the Next Era of Energy Innovation

As the global energy industry converges in Abu Dhabi for ADIPEC 2025, one thing is certain: this is the place where the future of energy technology is shaped. With more than 200,000 visitors expected across four days, the event is a vital stage to demonstrate leadership in real-time operations, industrial AI, and digital twins designed for a changing energy landscape.
We sat down with Kongsberg Digital leaders Henrik Martinsson, VP Growth EMEA, and Stian Skjævesland, VP Customer Success, to discuss what’s coming, the importance of ADIPEC, and how digitalisation is redefining the future of energy.
From Cost Focus to Technology Leadership
For decades, regional operators have been driven by cost. But that dynamic is changing rapidly. National oil companies used to look for the cheapest solution, but now they want the best—technically strong, visually outstanding, and proven at scale.
“This is a major oil-and-gas exhibition and conference event, if not the biggest. ”says Martinsson. It brings together energy companies and technology providers to showcase innovations and discuss the future of the global energy sector.”
“We’re seeing a shift from price-driven to performance-driven decisions,” says Martinsson. “These customers are investing in best-in-class technology because they see it as central to achieving their goals of efficiency, safety, and sustainability.”
“There’s a clear change underway,” Martinsson adds. “Operators here want solutions that make work easier, safer, and more effective. They’re not just asking about AI—they’re asking where it lives in the workflow, what value it creates, and how it improves the way people work.”
Real-Time Operations at Unprecedented Scale
Kongsberg Digital’s SiteCom® platform has become a benchmark for reliability and scale. Its real-time drilling system currently supports around 240 concurrent rigs in the region (more than 600 globally) operating more than five years without downtime—a statistic no other vendor can claim.
We’re confident calling it the number one real-time system at this scale. No one else manages more concurrent rigs with this uptime record.”
The newly introduced SiteCom® Live extends that legacy with a modern, browser-agnostic interface data transfer standards like WITSML (Wellsite Information Transfer Standard Markup Language) and the Energistics Transfer Protocol. The result: faster data flow, richer visual correlation for subsurface monitoring, and a more intuitive, secure user experience.
“Our systems don’t make decisions for the user,” Martinsson explains. “They surface subtle signals, combine them intelligently, and advise the experts—so they can act faster and safer.”
AI Beyond the Buzz
Artificial intelligence is everywhere in this year’s ADIPEC conversations—but KDI’s focus is firmly on AI that works where work happens.
“AI is a must-have, but customers want it beyond the buzz,” says Martinsson. “They want to see how it fits in daily operations—how it helps diagnose faster, improve safety, or reduce emissions per barrel. That’s the practical conversation we’re bringing to ADIPEC.”
Through its Kognitwin® digital twin platform, KDI connects data, people, and workflows—allowing operators to visualise, simulate, and optimise their facilities in real time. When coupled with embedded AI and contextual data, the platform becomes a foundation for faster, data-driven decision-making.
Built for the Region: Cloud, In-Country Cloud, and On-Premise Options
In a region where data sovereignty and security are paramount, KDI’s delivery flexibility sets it apart. The company’s solutions can run in public cloud, in-country cloud, or on-premise, ensuring compliance without limiting innovation.
We’re cloud-embracing and cloud-agnostic,” says Skjævesland. “If an operator needs everything inside their borders, we can do that. If they’re ready for public cloud, we’re there too. The key is giving customers a choice."
Investing in People, Presence, and Partnership
Winning in the Middle East takes more than software—it takes local presence. KDI is investing in in-country value by building partnerships, training local talent, and establishing a stronger regional footprint.
“You can’t manage a flagship account from afar,” Skjævesland emphasises. “Presence matters. We have presence from all levels of KDI, and we’re building local capability so our customers see that we’re truly invested in their success—and in their economy.”
This localisation strategy extends beyond compliance. KDI has been operating in the region for decades – since at least 2006, I believe. It’s about understanding culture, security expectations, and long-term relationships—critical elements in a region that values trust and continuity.
What to Expect from Kongsberg Digital at ADIPEC
Visitors to the Kongsberg Digital booth can expect to experience:
• Real-Time at Scale: Demonstrations of SiteCom® Live, including new correlation features and mobile applications for live operations.
• AI in the Workflow: Concrete examples of how AI-powered advisories enhance decisions in drilling, operations, and maintenance.
• Digital Twins for Performance: How Kognitwin® connects systems, sensors, and people into one unified operational view.
• Energy Simulation: A technical paper presentation by Jonathan Fox on energy simulation and modeling innovation.
A Future Built on Reliability, Innovation, and Trust
For Kongsberg Digital, ADIPEC isn’t just about technology launches—it’s about reinforcing trust built over decades of regional delivery. Himself an industry veteran, starting with KDI eighteen years ago, Skjævesland has been involved in deployment in almost every country in the Middle East.
“We’ve provided real-time systems to every country in this region over the past twenty years,” says Skjævesland “That history gives us credibility. Our new platforms build on that foundation—combining proven reliability with next-generation design.”
“ADIPEC is where ambition meets reality,” concludes Martinsson. “The world needs energy security, lower emissions, and smarter operations—and the technology to make it all work together. That’s what Kongsberg Digital brings to the table.”
Organisations must not only invest in the right technologies but also cultivate a culture and workforce prepared to leverage them effectively. The challenges are real, but the potential for growth, efficiency, and sustainability is immense for those who are ready to make the leap from aspiration to scaled action.
